EA was showing off several sports games at the EA Sports Season Opener event in San Francisco last night.

We won’t blame you for forgetting about the new free content that hit Dawn of War II today — in the hustle and bustle of all things GDC, it certainly slipped my mind.

I know you can buy the game for yourself and play it to make your own purchase decision. We were planning on running a hands-on preview of Street Fighter IV iPhone, but Capcom went and released it before we could finish at a party we were attending last night.

Right after finishing blowing the faces off thugs in Mafia II , I was whisked into the chilled and comfortable mini-auditorium confines that housed the Civilization 5 demo. But because I feel like playing the magician this afternoon, allow me to pull some fresh details out of my hat.

Earlier last afternoon I met with Disney Interactive Entertainment and a representative from Black Rock Studios to see a demo for Split/Second, the studios first racing title since Pure . It was, as I expected, a pleasant experience. In a Nutshell Split Second is a furious, teeth-gnashing arcade racer that takes several pyrotechnic dumps in your eyeholes during each outing

Iconic game designer Will Wright has described the Wii as more of a toy than a gaming console, and believes the system should be considered as such. Before you get your torches and pitchforks though, bear in mind that he doesn’t mean that as a bad thing. “I think the Wii is a very unique platform, and that’s kind of its core value,” he explains. ”That’s why it’s been so successful — because it’s pretty clearly different than the Xbox or the PlayStation

The names Brenda Brathwaite, Brian Reynolds, Noah Falstein and Steve Meretzky may not be instantly recognizable, but their gamemaking pedigrees are more than enough proof of their service to core gamers. Meretzky created, among other things, the Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy computer game alongside Douglas Adams. Brathwaite started her career in the videogame industry by working on the Wizardry series.
