When Capcom woke up this morning, it decided it would like to have roughly a bajillion more dollars by this time next year. It walked over to a secret panel in its foyer, slid it open and pressed a button inside, labeled “New Monster Hunter .” A press release was instantaneously launched announcing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd , the next PSP-based entry in the franchise, due out in Japan in late 2010. The announcement heralds new monsters and areas to explore, an expanded “Felyne Comrade” system (we’re pretty sure that’s Russian for “cat friend”) and improved co-op play.

[ sugree ] After a rocky launch period, EA assures us via Twitter that the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 online servers should now be finally stable. Pretty much every iteration of Bad Company 2 has seen issues arise when connecting to EA’s servers for multiplayer online, with Xbox 360 kicking some users all the way out to the Dashboard and PC users experiencing authentication issues with PunkBuster. The developer now says that those issues have been addressed, due in no small part to new servers being added over the weekend.

SCEA is currently certifying a patch that should allow PlayStation 3 owners of Bad Company 2 to gain access to their VIP content , according to DICE . The patch will “hopefully” go live today in North America, with Europe following “shortly after.” Once patched, PS3 players will gain access to Nelson Bay (Rush) and Laguna Alta (Conquest) — along with the ability to access all future content. The PS3 isn’t the only console having problems.

The initial announcement of Steam for Mac conspicuously omitted the inclusion of the first Left 4 Dead game. The Left 4 Dead blog , however, confirms that the original game will migrate to Mac along with the rest of the announced Valve games in “late Spring.” The post makes it sound as if both games will be added at the same time, but that remains unconfirmed

During the recent Vanquish media unveiling in Tokyo, creator Shinji Mikami outed the action-shooter game’s lack of multiplayer functionality. “That’s the main reason we’re keeping Vanquish as a single-player experience — to deliver the level of impact, the level of detail and the visuals we want to offer,” Mikami offered at the press event, reports Eurogamer . Apparently, due to the fact that the single-player game is “very intense” and “full of action,” a multiplayer component would require “shaving a lot of things off” in order to make them work.

For a few reasons, more people are flocking towards EA DICE and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 than ever showed up to cheer on the original Bad Company . The big factor, as far as I can tell, directly relates to a certain other big-name first-person shooter losing a portion of its following because of some sketchy decisions that were made
