Bonfire Studios, the development house that emerged in the wake of the Ensemble Studios closure , has picked up another ex-colleague: Dave Pottinger, lead designer of Halo Wars . He rejoins his peers as the director of technology, assuming the same responsibilities he held before Ensemble was shut down. Bonfire Studios is currently working on several unannounced projects for 2010

Tapulous, a company specializing in games for the iPhone, has added another to its ranks: Tap Tap Revenge: Metallica . The game is available right now in the App Store and fuses the band with the established Tap Tap Revenge experience, allowing gamers to poke their iPhone through some of the band’s most famous ditties such as “One” and “Enter Sandman” — with ten total tracks available.

We admit, this post started out as a “hey, check out this quirky ASCII remake of Valve’s transporting masterpiece” kind-of-post. Game industry legend Nolan Bushnell is back in the news again, with word from USA Today that he’s working on a new online game for the PC. Entitled Battleswarm: Field of Honor (see the tiny screenshot to the right), the Reality Gap -developed game pits humans versus alien bugs — what was it Bushnell said about today’s games not being innovative ? — with the humans playing from a first-person perspective and the bugs being controlled using a real-time strategy interface.

Gameloft, which happily announced increased sales in Q1 of 2009 despite the fact that it was, you know, Q1 of 2009 , after announcing increased sales in 2008, has released its results for the first half of 2009. Guess what? “Gameloft achieved consolidated sales of EUR60.1 million for the first half of 2009,” the statement reads, “up by 20% from the previous year.” 95 percent of Gameloft’s sales for this period came from mobile games, a business that grew thanks to the increasing popularity of the iPhone App Store.

It’s hard not to be impressed by the gaming setup seen “above.” It was conceived by one Patti Deni, who had the 98-inch screen installed in her son’s ceiling as a (helluva) surprise. The setup — comprised of a projector and some reflecting mirrors — weighs over 300 pounds and required the ceiling to be re-framed and reinforced. The project, which special wiring so that Deni’s son can connect his computer and game consoles — has garnered a Home of the Year nomination from Electronic House magazine
